About

Engineer, educator, author

A professional record in engineering technology, digital manufacturing, robotics, and applied design for industry.

Dr. Kay Rand Morgan is an engineer, educator, and researcher specializing in engineering technology, digital manufacturing, robotics, and applied design for industry. She is Assistant Professor of Engineering Technologies at Monroe Community College, State University of New York, where she teaches technical graphics, CAD in AutoCAD and SolidWorks, manufacturing processes, metrology, materials, and robotic automation.

Her work bridges theory and practice. Students in her courses model parts, assemble systems, print and inspect hardware, and learn why dimensions, tolerances, joint placement, and material choice matter on the shop floor. She is particularly known for using humanoid robot CAD to teach degrees of freedom, design intent, and design for manufacturing and assembly.

Dr. Morgan earned a Ph.D. in Technology Management, with a concentration in Quality Systems, from Indiana State University in 2019, and a Master of Science in Intelligent Robotic Systems from Kennesaw State University in 2026. Her academic preparation also includes chemistry, biology, quality assurance, and technology management. Professional experience includes manufacturing, quality assurance, data analysis, and automation.

She is active in curriculum development for digital manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and 5.0, digital twins, robotics, and engineering workforce education. She writes technical textbooks and workbooks so that complex engineering ideas remain practical, accessible, and immediately usable for students, technicians, and early-career professionals. She participates in ASME, ATMAE, and NSF Advanced Technological Education communities.
